Beloved Guidance from Ancestors (poem)

A cry for help and refuge heard and responded to by beloved ancestors and Earth

Dear ones.
We are listening.
We see you.
We love you.

You carry so much.
We see world wars
in your eyes alone.

Where did you learn
how to hold so much
that is not yours?

Can we teach you
how to let go?

Start slow,
pausing
and resting,
and beginning
again,
with each passing
moment
here with us.

Remember who
you are and why
you are here.

You are not here
to hold onto
and internalize
collective traumas
and heart, mind, and body
breaking injustices.

You are here
to heal on behalf of
all who have come before you
and who are still to come.

That healing comes
from seeing clearly
what is yours
and what is invented
from a system
designed to keep us
enslaved.

Set everything down
for a moment.
The burdens,
the worries,
the limiting core
beliefs and stories
on endless rotation
that you’ve consumed
so often that
you think they are you.
You think they are us.

Set all of it down
at our feet
and offer it to the earth.

The earth that offers
and receives us all.
The earth that is us all.

The earth will hold
it, all of it,
and the earth will hold
you, all of you.

The earth will hold
us all if we allow
ourselves to be held
and we will hold
you too always.
